Discovering new books is exciting, but it can be tedious, time-consuming and may involve disappointment.

Flavour is an app that helps you discover new books based on your literary taste. The app shows recommendations based on how much a book «matches» your interests. It also provides an extensive search function with a filter system to find books as well as access to authentic reviews.

Explore the process below.
  • I developed the whole project fully by myself. This included the conceptualisation and execution of each project phase.

Discovering new books is exciting, but it can be tedious, time-consuming and may involve disappointment.

I've conducted a survey to understand how users find books, what the most important factors for making a decision are, and what challenges they face during the process.

80%
find it very hard to discover new books that match their interests.
90%
take their decision mostly based on online reviews.
60%
feel overwhelmed by the amounts of books available.
« Trying to find a book
that's as intriguing as a good one that I've just recently finished. It's hard to top sometimes! »

Personas
Evaluating outcomes
Finding tendencies in how readers find new books.
Drawing conclusions
01
Most participants find it difficult to discover good books because they often dont know what they are looking for.
02
Most participants decide upon their next book based on reviews, well-known authors or authors they like.
03
Most participants are less interested in the socialising aspect and more interested in reliable book recommendations.
Product Goal
Our book discovery app will let users find books that match their interest which will affect readers by saving time and effort while looking for a book and receive reliable recommendations based on their reading behaviour. The effectiveness of the app can be measured by analysing the number of book discoveries.

The brand Flavour
Creating a brand that is as versatile as people's taste for books: the logo utilises three different typefaces to create a word mark that is distinct and recognisable. The users can choose between these typefaces and a range of vibrant colour-gradients to personalise their interface.
User interface design
Creating UI components that signify interactive elements and have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 to adhere to accessibility standards.
High fidelity screens
Drafting high fidelity screens that represent the entire user flow and match the visual appearance of the brand. This is done by applying the previously defined design system into sensible layouts.
Personalisation
The user can individualise their interface by choosing between three different typefaces and a range of vibrant colour gradients. This recognises the users different visual preferences without compromising on the brands visual appearance.
